Course Descriptions:Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or autism, as it is commonly known, is a developmental disorder that affects many children; typically in the way they communicate, form relationships and interact with other children. Autism may also affect the child's learning and information processing styles. Having a good understanding of the disorder is the first step and the key to developing effective, individualised intervention strategies for a child with autism.

The Fundamentals of Autism workshop aims to increase participant awareness through an introduction to Autism and the Culture of Autism. It is particularly relevant to parents/caregivers and teachers who would like to have an overview on the topic of Autism.

Participants will acquire a fundamental understanding of:
  • Learning styles and preferences of children with autism
  • Learning profiles of children with autism
  • Learning difficulties faced by children with autism
  • Practical intervention strategies that work
Learning Goals:Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Appreciate the different ways of learning and perceiving the world by their child with autism
  • Understand the reasons behind the difficulties faced by their child with autism in learning, social interaction and communication
